Minifestival - Standard Fare
The fiercely competitive nature of the music industry means that the independent music scene is as alive as ever. Unsigned bands are desperate for publicity and a chance for their music to be heard; that's where this Minifestival comes in.
The idea behind its creation was not to rival big music festivals but to gain a reputation as the place from which bands could potentially launch a successful career. Attending the main event this year (February 26th) will be US alternative rock group Magnapop, various English groups including Leeds-based Dakota Suite and Standard Fare from Sheffield, and more local Barcelona bands such as Le Pianc and First Aid Kit.
Also part of the Minifestival triumverate, on January 21st, you can get a taste of what the Barcelona youth have to offer. Five exciting local groups will showcase their talent at Convent de Sant Agustí, Calle Comerç, 36. It's free to get in and you might just discover something special. Doors open at 8pm.
Finally, February 19th is another date for your diary. Away from music, this Minifestival tries to promote other cultural productions and is involved with art disciplines such as photography, cinema and visual arts. The Convent de Sant Agustí, Calle Comerç, 36 will be the venue for some contemporary cinema and a cinematography workshop. Entry is free and doors open at 11am.
