Wynton Marsalis, jazz trumpeter and musical educator tours with the orchestra from the Lincoln Jazz Centre.
Showing an aptitude for music at an early age, the New Orleans-born Marsalis has over the years played with names such as Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins and Herbie Hancock. Not only is he the artistic director of Jazz at the Lincoln Centre he is devoted to bringing music to youngsters. Despite winning nine Grammy's for his work, over the course of his illustrious career he's known many a critic who complain that his music isn't in the true style of jazz and that he is stuck in a certain, limited period and that this has stunted the progression and popularity of other types of jazz.
Whatever you're a purist or not there's no denying his popularity, he's toured every continent in the world and is returning to Spain, seven years after his last performance, this time as part of the Grec Festival.
