Aerial attacks on Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War led to the construction of 1,400 air raid shelters throughout the city. You can visit one of the few known remaining shelters, located beneath the Plaça del Diamant in Gràcia, as part of the events sponsored during the Festa Major de Gràcia. Tours are organised through the Taller d'Història; a table will be set up in the plaça during the festivites where you can sign up to visit the underground shelter. On August 19th at 8pm, a tour will be offered in English. Guided tours of the Gràcia shelter are also offered throughout the year. Reservations are essential and can be made by calling the Taller d'Història.
Guided visits last an hour and cost €3. They run all year round but these are specially for for the Festa Major de Gràcia, including the tour offered in English.
