El Cant de la Terra
Pablo González, conductor of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya for this special concert
The Song of the Earth (Das Lied von der Erde) might have been Gustav Mahler's ninth symphony, but the composer wanted to cheat fate, fearful of the 'curse' of the ninth symphony that composers such as Beethoven, Schubert and Bruckner couldn't overcome.
The Song of the Earth is based on Chinese poems translated by Hans Bethge. Mahler found solace in their verses, unfazed by the presence of pain of death, which takes shape in his music.
The performances will take place on June 1st (9pm), June 2nd (7pm) and June 3rd (11am). Tickets are priced between €20 and €40.
