The Snapping Turtle's Lament Home
Jo Marvel has been part of the English-language theatre scene in Barcelona for a while now but this is her first outing as both writer and director.
The story follows a young woman who doesn't have much of a backbone as she struggles to get the nerve to acquire the money she needs to go back to university. She is helped and, more often, "helped" by a man and a woman who are hard to place in this world. They are puppeteers of sorts and have taken her on as their job of the moment. As they all work towards their shared goal, towards the point, they discover it not to be precisely what they previously thought. This somewhat more mundane plot-line is swathed in absurdities popping up in the form of puppets, soundscapes, and physical theatre. The show is quick, only an hour-long, but fully envelops you, leaving you laughing, wondering, and, hopefully, a little lighter on your feet.
