The Drums list The Smiths and Joy Division among their influences. That isn't to say they're stuck in 70s and 80s UK post-punk and alt-rock of yesteryear but their picks definitely reflect in tunes such as "I Feel Stupid" as well as sleepy, fuzzy tracks like "Down by the Water".
Since they released their first single a year ago, they've made quite a splash, appearing in NME's list for 2010, BBC's Sound of 2010 and Pitchfork's 2009 Readers' Poll. They've yet to break through to the mainstream, so this intimate gig provides the chance to witness a group lingering just below the surface.
