Combining the melodic jangle of post-Smiths' indie guitar pop with the lilting, trance-inducing sonic textures of late-Eighties dream pop and adding a slight Celtic tint, the Cranberries became one of the more successful groups to emerge from the pre-Britpop UK indie scene of the early Nineties. Starting out in 1989 under the name The Cranberry Saw Us, which was soon changed to The Cranberries, the band made little impact on the UK until 'Linger' became an American hit in 1993. After that, they notched up an impressive eight top 20 records in the UK chart, with songs such as 'Dreams' and 'Zombie'.
