Two men have been captured and imprisoned by Spanish rebels and are destined to spend the last years of their lives together. Locked in a room in a military hospital near Santander, these complete strangers are forced to endure the terrible hours of a countdown that may culminate in one of them dying at daybreak, as one name continues to reverberate around the room: Federico García Lorca.
Inspired by the life of Rafael Rodríguez Rapún—Lorca’s companion during their final years together—La Piedra Oscura is a dark and gritty piece that delves deep into the Spanish psyche. This text, written by award-winning playwright Alberto Conejero, combines dramatic tension and poetic rhythm to question both how history views the recent past, as well as the fate of the people it has forgotten. Described by El País as a “wonderful and moving piece of theatre”, this hour-long Spanish production opens at the Teatre Lliure on February 17th and runs until February 28th.
