In recent years, Canadian acts such as Drake, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber have experienced phenomenal levels of success in the charts, cementing themselves as leading artists in the modern music world. Inspired by their success, Canadian-Latin singer Alx Veliz (born and raised in Canada to Guatemalan parents) wants to be the next, exploring new sounds and dance moves in his debut single ‘Dancing Kizomba’. Performing in Spain for the first time, Veliz comes to Sutton Club on April 13th, and presents hits from his new album Love Has No Language (2016).
‘Kizomba’ (the Angolan word for ‘party’) is the hottest dance craze in decades, and is already being played in clubs around the world, from Montreal and Moscow to Montevideo and Miami. Releasing music in both English and Spanish, Veliz told Billboard: “I want to show that I’m not only Canadian, but also a Latin artist because of my roots. My goal is that every song I create in English will be performed in Spanish as well.”
