12 x 12 Theatre Company presents a contemporary interpretation of Luigi Pirandello's 1921 play Six Characters in Search of an Author (Sei personnaggi in cerca d'autore) in English with Catalan subtitles. Italian playwright Pirandello, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1934, used this work to explore notions of the unified self employing the stage to symoblise the clash of appearance versus reality. The play features six fictional characters, all members of one family: father, mother, son and three children from a previous relationship of the mother. In this version, updated by Rupert Goold and Ben Power, the six invade the filming of a docu-drama about euthanasia to demand that their own suffering be recorded; the interaction between the six fictional people and those actors taking part in the filming raise questions about the meaning of reality that are all-too-relevant to our society's current obsessions with 'reality'.
