In 2006, Simone Felice, along with his two brother and friends, formed the folk rock group The Felice Brothers. Based in upstate New York, the band got their start playing in the New York city subway. However, Felice's participation in the band was short-lived, as he left in 2009, just one year after they signed a record deal. He went on to start his own group, The Duke and The King, who released their first album Nothing Gold Can Stay in August, 2009. The album was received well by critics, who praised Felice's thoughtful lyrics and authentic, dusty Americana sound.
