SANTO, the pseudonym of a mysterious dynamic and multi-talented artist who lives and works in Barcelona, holds his first solo exhibition at the Artevistas Gallery in El Gòtico.
Skilled not only in painting and collage, but also illustration, fashion design and literature, SANTO’s new experimental collection '2012' attempts to capture the significance of the present moment.
In this series, the artist combines techniques of collage with assemblage to create a new dialogue about the topic of decay and death, whilst also attempting to show the fleeting beauty in such universal events.
SANTO has developed his artistic aesthetic over time to form such highly sensitive and refined works. SANTO, through his collection, remains focused and pensive on his subject matter but leaves the task of interpretation with the viewer. Instead, the artist subtly hints at a reading in order to establish a mutual and symbiotic process which does not let the work be defined and constrained by his personal perception of them.
The collection has been described as a series of visual and abstract poems that capture a fleeting moment of chaos within the frames. And why create and dedicate a collection to the present moment? Because for SANTO, it’s the only thing that really exists.
