Born in Guatemala in 1974, Regina José Galindo has been active as an artist and campaigner since the mid-Nineties. Her work focuses on Guatemala's political repression, gender-based violence and torture.
The inspiration for her XX project comes from the sad reality of death in Guatemala. Everyday, two to four corpses are buried, marked XX, the occupants of the grave unidentified or unknown. Through XX, Galindo highlights the shocking truth about Guatemala's violent past and present, and its unidentified victims.
