Platja d'Aro Festa Major
If you’re going to be in the Costa Brava around the August 15th public holiday, you will be spoilt for choice if you fancy partaking of a local festa major. Banyoles, Tamariu and La Bisbal d’Empordà are just three of the many places in the region that enjoy their main annual festivities around the feast day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, but the biggest party is to be found in Platja d’Aro. For the rest of the year, this beach town is well-known locally for its many restaurants, bars and shops that open seven days a week, and when it comes to festa major time, it tends to pull out all the stops. If you’re looking for a sedate affair, you’re best off heading elsewhere (such as Ullastret, a quaint and historic village that has the remains of an Iberian settlement nearby, and celebrates its festa major on August 11th)—but if your plan is to enjoy this mid-month break by letting your hair down outside Barcelona, the place to be is Platja d’Aro.
