This year's big summer show at the Museu Picasso aims to explore and understand the role played by the Catalan artist Santiago Rusiñol in the early education of Pablo Picasso, who lived in Barcelona when he was a teenager. The show will compare not just the artistic output of the two men, who met at very different stages of their artistic as well as biological lives, but also their individual biographies, in the search for overlaps and discrepancies between the way their public careers and private lives panned out. The exhibition is based on a recent publication by Eduard Vallès, who curates this show, entitled Picasso and Rusiñol. The crossroads of modernity (Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges, Barcelona 2008) and includes 160 different works, with paintings, drawings, etchings and photographs.
