The 20th-century was an era of great social change and nowhere is that clearer than in the role of women. This exhibition, organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Catalan theatre institute, looks at this change through the medium of theatre. The increasingly dominant role women were playing both on stage and in their daily lives came during a golden era of Catalan theatre, which saw women expanding into other roles outside the usual characters, which were little more than mannequins, meant to lure men into sin. The exhibition gives us insights into the lives of actresses such as Margarida Xirgu, Elena Jordi, Mary Santpere, Matilde Almendros, Assumpció Balaguer, Montserrat Carulla, Carlota Soldevila, Núria Espert, Anna Lizaran, Rosa Novell, Vicky Peña, Emma Vilarasau and many more.
