Known and loved by audiences worldwide, Bizet's opera Carmen tells a tragic tale of love and death. Initially controversial and unpopular due to its portrayal of the lives of common folk, Bizet himself died before his masterpiece gained recognition and acclaim. However, today Carmen is widely performed and songs such as the 'Habanera' and the 'Toreador Song' are among the most recognisable of all operatic arias. Playing at the Palau de la Música Catalana, this version is conducted by Xavier Puig and directed by Jesús Fernández.
