From March 5th until March 17th, Palau de la Música will host the 62nd edition of the Maria Canals International Music Competition. With over €70,000 to be won in prize money, as well as the chance to deliver a solo recital at the stunning L’Auditori, young musicians from across the globe are gathering in Barcelona as they compete to be crowned the ultimate young piano talent.
After a gruelling three rounds of showcasing their best playing skills, only three contestants will progress to the grand final on March 17th, where they will be accompanied by the National Youth Orchestra of Catalunya. There will also be a series of “off recitals” taking place in Barcelona's public spaces, music schools and cultural establishments during the contest, and their aim is to promote classical music within the city. The Maria Canals competition is one of the leading piano competitions in Spain and has been part of the World Federation of Competitions since 1958.
