Mostra Internacional Films de Dones de Barcelona 2012
Film-maker Àgnes Varda—two episodes from her autobiographical television show will be screened at the event
Starting with an open-air screening of the Norwegian film Sykt Lykkelig (Always Happy) on Thursday 7th, this 11-day film festival celebrates women film-makers.
Another of the opening highlights will be the screening of the film Maria Mercè Marçal (Fran Ruvira, Spain, 2012), a film about the Catalan poet through the eyes of many different generations of film-makers who go into her life and work by reflecting on feminine identity. The film is not just a simple trbute to Maria Mercè Marçal, but also a platform on which the directors project their own experience.
The programme includes shorts, debates, contributions from young directors in the Maghreb and episodes from a tv documentary about and made by legendary Belgium-born film-maker, Agnès Varda.
Among the 22 filmmakers who take part, the busy schedule includes these names: Judith Colell, Anna Petrus, Mercè Ibarz, Lydia Zimmermann, Rosa Vergés, Mariona Omedes, Francesca Llopis and Elisabet Cabeza, who will gather to inaugurate this year's show.
The film festival will take place at various locations, including: la Filmoteca de Catalunya, CCCB, l'Espai F. Bonnemaison and La Virreina.
