What do we want from art? This is the question addressed by American-born artist, Andrea Fraser, in this new exhibition at MACBA that gives an introspective, critical analysis of the art world. The exhibition explores the motivations of various groups involved with the creation and consumption of art, such as artists, collectors, gallerists, patrons and audiences. Taking a sociological standpoint, the exhibition looks at how the art world can objectify and institutionalise social structures. Fraser is one of the most provocative and influential agents in her field and her practice of critical reflexivity allows her to deconstruct the fabric of the art world and explore its internal mechanisms as well as the psychological, political and economic influences that shape it.
