By Francisco de Goya y Lucientes
Los desastres de la guerra
'Con razón o sin ella'
As Spain battled for independence against the French between 1810 - 1814, a painter of the Spanish court captured a graphic chronicle of the tragic event.
The 80 pictures on display by Goya are put into context by a series of documents detailing the exact historic events that took place in Catalunya during the War for Independence. However, Goya does more than capture scenes of the time, his art is a statement against war that denounces the atrocities of the French Army and also the violence of the uncontrolled masses.
