La Copa Nadal de Barcelona
For over 100 years, on December 25th, The Barcelona Swimming Club has organised a special swimming event. The competition involves a swim across 200 meters of open water in the Barcelona harbor, starting in front of the monument to Christopher Columbus, at the Portal de la Pau.
The first edition of the Copa Nadal was organised for Christmas in 1907, which makes this the oldest sporting event in Barcelona and one of the oldest in Europe.
Around 450 swimmers are expected to brave the chilly waters this Christmas day, which are usually around 13 degrees Celsius. And if you fancy witnessing the unique spectacle, bring yourselves down to the harbour at 12pm, when the competition is set to begin!
