La Barcelona de 2014
The Ciutadella park promises to be an interesting venue to spend some time in this Mercé.
To mark the tricentenary of the siege of Barcelona in 1714, the park will be transformed for the duration of La Mercé. Divided into two parts by an imaginary line, one half will recreate the city in 1714 (La Ciutat de la Bullicia) and the other will celebrate the most modern artistic endeavours of the city's inhabitants (La Barcelona del 2014).
Stroll through the city of 1714 and you'll find a tavern, the city wall, house façades from the period, a battle camp and several historic figures from the time explaining the war of succession. Enjoy processions, historical plays and traditional songs and dance.
Back in Barcelona del 2014 all eyes are set firmly on the future and on creation and innovation. Contemporary dance that looks to push new boundaries, a virtual singer who sings lyrics suggested via Twitter and electronic opera are just some of the events lined up.
