L’elisir d’amore - An opera for everyone.
One of Gaetano Donizetti’s most famous operas, L’elisir d’amore, will be staged in Barcelona´s Gran Teatre de Liceu next week. First performed here on February 5th, 1848, the romantic, peoples’ favourite returns for three nights only, this time assembled by well-known stage director, Mario Gas.
The opera is based in a small, idyllic village, where the comical characters play out their lives, revealing their emotions and weaknesses, with a touch of romanticism and magic potions thrown in to reveal the power of love among the ordinary.
Full of well known melodies and arias, such as ‘Una furtive lagrima’ – one of the most famous and most extracted arias ever written - L’elisir d’amore offers a fun and easy introduction to the often-perplexing genre of opera.
Lead roles are played by the internationally reknowned young actors Nicole Cabell and Javier Camarena, whilst Danielle Callegari, specialist in Italian opera, leads the orchestra.
L’elisir d’amore will be performed on 11th and 18th of November at 5pm and November 16th at 8pm. Click here for further information and ticket prices.
