Jeru the Damaja
Legandary Nineties hip-hop icon Jeru the Damaja makes an appearance at Café Marula. The Brooklyn-born MC has worked extensively with childhood friends Guru and DJ Premier of Gang Starr. He is best known for his 1994 debut album The Sun Rises in the East, which was ranked as one of the top 100 greatest hip-hop albums of all time by the editors of About.com.
Accompanying Jeru the Damaja onstage is a New-York-based underground rapper Afu-Ra. He first appeared on Jeru the Damaja's The Sun Rises in the East, but his own debut album wasn't released until October 2000 entitled Body of the Life Force, on which guests included Wu-Tang Clan's GZA and Masta Killa, M.O.P., Ky-Mani Marley and the Cocoa Brovaz.
