At the height of the current refugee crisis, Cine Refugi presents their series of films, seeking to bring awareness to the issue through the big screen. The campaign uses films to promote values of peace and unity, working in collaboration with other similar organisations. This Wednesday, 2015 BAFTA nominee: ‘A Syrian Love Story’ (2015) provides an agonising glimpse into the impact of war, imprisonment and refugee life on one relationship. British documentary maker Sam McAllister follows the tragic journey of Amer Douad and Ragdha Hassan, who after being freed from a Damascan prison, struggle to overcome the aftermath of post-traumatic stress and depression. McAllister provides a humanising portrayal of the realities of war, shedding light on the contemporary refugee crisis.
