Janey Godley smaller
When she was a pub landlady in the East End of Glasgow, Janey Godley once short-changed Gordon Brown twice-in-a-row to see if he would notice the financial irregularity. He either didn't notice or was too scared to confront her. "I decided maybe he couldn't add up," she says.
At the Giggling Guiri this month, Janey's 5-star comedy show Godley's World may be jam-packed with even more bizarre true anecdotes than normal because of her currently hectic schedule. The show tells of her travels and travails around the world from Holland to Holyrood to Hollywood. Everything from Jesus attacking her leg in New York to meeting a tiger in New Zealand and an inconvenient death on a bleak Highland train.
Stuck in Toronto by the exploding Icelandic volcano, she extended her run of 50-minute shows there, only managed to return to Glasgow a few days ago, will transfer to london for her Soho run then, next week, she is performing in Roswell, Georgia for three nights, then is off to Barcelona for two nights and, returning briefly to Glasgow to get her breath back, is then off to Los Angeles for a fortnight while also preparing for her two-shows-per day run at the Edinburgh Fringe throughout August... a children's show with her daughter Ashley Storrie every lunchtime and her own comedy show every evening.
Oh! - All this plus her award-winning blog, weekly online column and monthly magazine column.
The Glasgow Herald said of her: "Successfully spanning theatre, television, radio and newspapers, her recent torrent of column inches induces respect and incredulity in lazy journalists."
Janey says: "Well, at least it keeps my mind off the Election."
Time Out called Janey: "A stand-up so personal in approach I wouldn't be surprised if she breast-fed the front row."
"The most outspoken female stand-up in Britain... The most ribald and refreshing comedy talent to have risen from the slums of Glasgow since Billy Connolly" (Daily Telegraph)
