I'm From Barcelona Home
I'm from Barcelona are what happens when you throw together 29 Swedes, some banjos, accordions, kazoos, funky costumes and a homage to BBC's Fawlty Towers waiter, Manuel. Sounds like a performance better suited for the playground than the big stage but this Swedish baroque pop group have found the perfect balance between musical quality and unconventional novelty.
I'm From Barcelona's 29 band members--in roles ranging from "synthesizer and glockenspiel player" to "heart and soul"--conjure together several layers of instrumentation and collaborative vocals to create a hybrid of sorts. Think the collective spirit of Broken Social Scene with the fun of the Flaming Lips and musical quality of Spiritualized. Without a doubt there's nothing quite like I'm From Barcelona, and where better to see them than their namesake city? Let's hope Razzmatazz's stage is big enough.
