The Grec Theatre Festival celebrates its 24th birthday this year. The original aim of the festival was to innovate Barcelona's domestic theatre scene, and that heritage is perpetuated this year as the organisers aims are set on new boundaries and cultures: the heavy Japanese influence on this year's festival is testament to that ambition, as is the desire to reach out to new generations of audiences. Opera houses from all over Spain have created family-orientated productions to create a festival which, more than ever, challenges the boundaries of conventional theatre and provides something for all tastes.
