The Photogenic Festival is suitable for both professionals and novices and provides the opportunity to learn more about the techniques and styles adopted by some of Spain’s most popular photographers. Many of these events and workshops also include a chance to see photographer's respective collections and find out more about the person behind the photo.
The Spanish photographer Cristina Ortero will be hosting a workshop; she became well-known after she was announced as the youngest individual to feature in an exhibition in Spain at the age of 15. The workshop itself has been shrouded in mystery, but is expected to be interactive and more information will be unveiled over time. Another event will be hosted by Isabel Steva i Hernández, who uses the pseudonym Colita, a very well-regarded Spanish photographer who worked closely with Francis Catalan-Roca. The public can see her most famous works as Colita tells the story behind each one. A workshop on food photography will teach participants how to present different ingredients and use lighting among other techniques in order to get the most appetising photo. There are many more workshops that teach budding photographers new skills, including working with flash photography, taking pictures of musicians, making the best of dark spaces and much more.
The festival runs from October 13th to October 27th. Times and locations vary for each event, however everything takes place in the Gràcia district. Many of the events are free to attend, however, for some of the workshops and master classes ticket prices range from €10 to €40. More information can be found here.
