Two artists, Peter Halley from New York and Yago Hortal from Catalunya, both regular contributors to Barcelona’s Senda gallery in their own right, have come together to create a collaborative project that explores the similarities and differences in their abstract artwork. Halley and Hortal’s enthusiasm to work together gives this exhibition a special significance that goes further than their usual solo work. The end result of eight months of collaboration sees an exhibition that examines what makes the New Yorker and the Catalan similar and what differentiates them; it looks at experience versus youth, rationalism versus randomness, geometry versus gesture, and the different uses of colour. Each artist will exhibit three large paintings, aimed at inciting a dialogue, and they will also exhibit five pieces created in collaboration.
