German-born artist Gabriel Schmitz likes to paint people. Through his work - often portraits of females - he captures the occasional melancholy and introspection of the human spirit, whilst also capturing the physical form.
Continuing in his signature style, his newest exhibition is a striking collection of 23 oil on canvas portraits. It includes a number of portraits of the human form yet as the artist reveals 'it is not the body that interests me but what it can express. It moves me in such a way that I feel the need to convey this 'shock' and give it a form.'
