From I to J
Centre de arts Santa Mònica La Rambla 7, 08002 Barcelona
Installation and projection exhibit is produced by Isabel Coixet and dedicated to John Berger, the author of the novel, From A to X. In Berger's story, A'ida writes daily letters to her imprisoned lover Xavier, telling him of life outside his walls, from day to day occurences to lamenting his absence, as he is imprisoned presumably for life for his beliefs and ideas. Xavier is forbidden to respond to A'ida's letters; all he can do is write short notes or comments in the margins. The installation aspect of this exhibit features pages from Berger's book and other interpretations of the sketches and musings from the pages, while the projection aspect features multiple actresses including Penelope Cruz, Sophie Calle and Patricia Clarkson reading and interpreting the letters from the novel.
