Festival Asia 2013
Part of La Mercè but very much with its own personality, Festival Asia returns this year focusing on music, dance and illusion. Started in 2001, its organiser, the cultural centre Casa Asia, aims to increase awareness of modern Asia alongside its ancient traditions.
This year, the Korean girl group MIJI is opening celebrations, performing their mix of traditional Korean music with the popular K-pop at Espai Francesca Bonnemaison. Other performances to look out for are Iranian band Tarighat, Mongolian 'grunge' artist Tulegur Gangzi, the Barcelona Coral Asia choir made up of 50 people of 24 different nationalities and an acrobatic performance by the Hubei Wugiao Acrobatic Art School (one of the best schools of acrobatics and magicians in China). Closing the festival is the Geimaruza Dance Group, at the CaixaFòrum Auditorium.
This colourful, annual festival is completely free (bar the final show held at La CaixaForum which will be €4) and held at various venues around the city. This year it's going bigger and bolder with an open-air stage on Passeig de Sant Joan and performances in the castle on Montjuïc and CaixaForum.
