Barcelona Improv Group (BIG)
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), one in four of us suffer from a mental illness—something that has, in the past, been a large taboo in society and rarely given its due attention. Thanks to increased media coverage, however, and with more people talking about such illnesses—including Stephen Fry and Miley Cyrus—the stigma that was once attached to such issues is being removed. Organised by the Mental Health Federation of Catalonia, a new initiative is being introduced in Barcelona—Mental Health Friendly—which involves fun, English-language events to raise awareness of mental health and also help raise money for social inclusion projects for those with mental health problems. Comedy stand-up Just Kidding Barcelona, Barcelona Improv Group and punk-indie band The Lucies will all be performing at this event in June, and all performances will be in English. The event is free, but there will be opportunity at the end of the night to give donations that will go towards scholarships and other training activities for students and people with mental health problems.
