Aline Smithson - East Coast, West Coast
Two artists, although from the same generation, present diverging perceptions of their fellow Americans in this exhibit of 40 photographs. Greg Miller, born in Nashville, Tennessee, represents the East coast of the U.S. His playful photo collection ¨County Fair¨ takes the spectator to an off-kilter fair scene, where he explores the relationship between watching and being watched against the backdrop of a fading form of entertainment. While Miller explores the faces of strangers, his West coast counterpart Aline Smithson takes her half of the exhibit to a more personal place. Her collection, best summarized by the self-explanatory title ¨Portrait of the Photographer´s Mother,¨ is a work of introspection. The bi-polarity of the exhibit makes it an interesting cocktail of American photography, not to be missed.
