Coverage - Marime Hugonnier
French artist Marime Hugonnier presents her latest work, Coverage, Blue Cyan Green Yellow Red Magenta Black, made up of collages made on vintage Spanish newspapers from the Sixties until present day.
As part of her ongoing Art for Modern Architecture, the artist introduces another dimension to this exhibition by mimicking the nature of newspapers and changing the work each day, therefore displaying 26 different works during the 29 days of the show.
The series Art for Modern Architecture began in 1951 when Ellsworth Kelly applied the cut-outs from the book Line, Form and Color to the front pages of newspapers. In the case of Hugonnier's work, the events featured were not chosen by the artist, nor are they the result of some historiographical study but simply what the artist could find. By discovering what the Spanish felt worthy of keeping Hugonnier feels she is revealing what she is calling a collective consciousness.
