This annual event originated in San Francisco in 2005, but now takes place in 200 cities across the world and Barcelona is no exception. This Friday, for the third consecutive year, people all over the city will be transforming ordinary parking spots into luscious green spaces to promote an important earth-centric message. The aim of the event is to raise awareness about environmental damage and our own ecological footprint, as well as the pressing need to create a greener city. The converted parking spots reflect a commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity in Barcelona and the joint objective to reduce air and noise pollution. In 2014, 40 different organisations participated in the event, together creating 30 stunning installations, and this year promises to be bigger than ever. A map is available to help people find these special green pockets across the city.
