Kenyan artist, Cyrus Kabiru, leads two weekends of art workshops where everyone—young and old, artistically gifted or challenged—is welcome to come along and create sculptural eyewear inspired by his work that features in the CCCB’s current exhibition, Making Africa. Kabiru’s artistic eyewear is made from recycled materials which have been given new life in the form of funky, innovative glasses that aren’t your average high street find. The purpose of Making Africa and these workshops is to change how we view Africa in terms of design and progress in the 21st century. This eyewear art is a metaphor for the need to change our perspective of modern-day Africa, not just in the artistic sphere, but also in the social, political and economic ones.
