Carmen by Georges Bizet Home
Carmen is a spectacle that is praised by both musicians and artists for its well-crafted plot and melodic and instrumental inventiveness. The tragic clash between a passionate gypsy and a traditional, possessive Navarrese soldier was first performed in 1875 and led to the the cult of realism known as verismo. There will be 14 performances at Gran Teatre de Liceu between September 27th and October 17th with a further seven scheduled for July 2011.
This new production, directed by the controversial Calixto Bieito and based on his original production from the 1999 Festival de Peralada is conducted by Marc Piolet.
