Bizet's Carmen comes to the Barcelona big screen via satellite as it is performed at the Teatre La Scala in Milan. Without doubt one of the most iconic and important works in the history of opera, its opening performance in 1875 was rubbished by the critics. Carmen depicts the story of a beautiful gypsy girl with a fiery temper living in Seville. Her carelessness with the hearts of others becomes her downfall, when the corporal Don José becomes consumed with jealousy and commits the ultimate crime of passion, after Carmen turns from him to the bullfighter, Escamillo.
