Vincenzo Bellini's most famous opera, Norma, returns to the Gran Teatre del Liceu this month. This production of the musical tragedy is by the up-and-coming American stage director, Kevin Newbury.
Although it was written in the early 19th century, this Italian opera explores timeless themes, such as jealousy, passion and revenge, which are still significant today. Like many great works of art, the first performance of Norma was allegedly a failure, however it went on to become an opera sensation.
Norma was first shown at the Liceu shortly after it was written, and was just the the third opera ever to have been staged there.
Performance dates: February 8th, 9th, 11, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th. Length: 3h 15min. More information on times, prices and dates here.
