If you really want to run 26 miles (42 kilometres in local parlance) around Barcelona, then until March 11th, you’re still in time to sign up for this year’s ultimate local road race. It costs €70 to register online here.
However, cheering on from the sidelines is an acceptable alternative to actually getting your running shoes on. That crowd motivation could make all the difference between participants flagging completely and deciding to keep going, despite the hideous agony in all parts of their bodies. And to make it all more fun for those watching (because of course, that’s what it’s all about), organisers Zurich Insurance have set up 40 different entertainment points around the sides of the route, including music, food and children’s events. Not so rewarding as getting a medal at the end of a triumphant few hours of running, but a different Sunday morning out anyway.
The route is as follows: Plaça Espanya - Sants - Camp Nou - Diagonal - Travessera de les Corts - Berlin - Rocafort - Tarragona - Gran Vía - Passeig de Gràcia - La Pedreda - Roselló - La Sagrada Familia - Valéncia - Meridiana - Felip II - Pont Calatraua - Rambla Prim - Diagonal - Torre Agbar - Plaça de les Glories - Diagonal - Forum - Port Olímpic - Torres Mapfre - Parc de la Ciutadella - Arc de Triomf - Ronda St. Pere - Plaça Catalunya - La Rambla - Colom - Paral-lel - Ronda St. Pau - Sepúlueda - Plaça Espanya.
Good luck to all those who take part!
