The Human Rights Film Festival, with headquarters in Barcelona and offices in Paris and New York, is one of the city’s most important film festivals with more than 20 screenings taking place simultaneously in Barcelona, Paris and New York. Now in its 11th year, the festival showcases fiction, animation and documentaries from around the world.
This year over 4000 films were submitted to compete for six awards: best feature film award, best short film award, journalism and human rights award, human rights award (to a person for their collaboration in the defense of human rights), and two honorary awards, promoted by Amnesty International and Survival International.
The festival opens on the 22nd at the Cinemes Girona with the screening of Mediastan, a film shot by the Wikileaks team, that follows the adventure of the research team in the Middle East, and a videoconference with Julian Assange from the Ecuador embassy in London.
