D'A 2016 will take place from April 21st to May 1st at the Filmoteca de Catalunya in the Raval (Plaça Salvador Seguí), at CCCB (Montalegre, 5), at SGAE (Passeig de Colom, 6), and also Cines Aribau Club (Gran Via 565 on the corner with Aribau).
The festival's aim is to explore contemporary cinema d'auteur; seeking out and appreciating the best in new film creations and combining established names with new talents.
It's not a festival of big names. Rather, it's a chance for cinema lovers to see films that wouldn't be put on at the local cinemaplex in a million years.
To name a few: the festival will open with a screening of A Bigger Splash (2015) by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, which relays the vacation of a famous rock star that is disrupted by the unexpected visit of an old friend and his daughter. The film will then end with La propera pell (2016), directed by Isaki Lacuesta, flirting with documentary genre that tells the tale of a missing child, presumed dead, who returns home after six years to reintegrate into family life with the mystery of his disappearance left to be solved.
Prices haven't gone up from last year, with a cost of €4-€7 per screening, with discounts available and sets of five tickets at a reduced price.
