Barcelona’s Say it Loud festival, a celebration of black music and culture, will be bigger and better than ever this year. Music-wise, there will be concerts from the likes of British soul-meets-electro singer Harleighblu and the Malagan rapper Elphomega at various venues throughout the city.
This year the festival commemorates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panthers Party, a social movement that aimed to protect Afro-American rights in the US. On the 19th October a screening of the documentary The Black Panthers Party, Vanguard of the Revolution (2016) will take place. A number of other events will take place during the course of the 9-day festival, including a free party and an exhibition of photographs to mark the 20th anniversary of the magazine Enlace Funk, which specialises in black music in Spain.
