Under the leadership of Catalan composer and conductor Salvador Brotons, the Municipal Band of Barcelona has held residency in l’Auditori since 2007. Founded in 1886, it is one of the oldest symphonic bands in the city, and performs both Catalan and international music. This time, they welcome two international stars, Dutch composer and conductor, Johan de Meij, and Dutch trombone virtuoso, Jörgen van Rijen, to join them for a night of international sound. Meij is most famous for his 1984 ‘The Lord of The Rings’ symphony, and Rijen is the Principal Trombonist at the prestigious Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. These two Dutchmen will offer a rendition of Meij’s three compositions, ‘Magic Garden’, ‘T-Bone Concerto’ and ‘Extreme Makeover’.
Following this, the night will take a Celtic twist as highlights from Irish composer Bill Whelan’s Riverdance will be performed by the Municipal Band of Barcelona.
