To Kingdom Come, ASVOFF 2012
'To Kingdom Come', directed by Pam Hogg
ASVOFF (A Shaded View of Fashion on Film) is a fashion film festival which was created by Diane Pernet, designer and film-maker, in 2008. Since then, it has gained critical acclaim and has had editions in many other cities, such as Tokyo, Paris and Cannes. The festival is coming to Barcelona for the first time at the end of January 2012.
ASVOFF is a compilation of short fashion, style and beauty films. It also showcases feature films, documentaries, conferences, performances and installations. Icons associated with the project include Chris Cunningham, Róisín Murphy, Nick Knight, Erwin Olaf, Nobuyoshi Araki, Tilda Swinton, Steven Klein, Mike Figgis, Chloë Sevigny, Dita Von Teese, Max Vadukul, Bruce Weber and Ryan McGinley as well as Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Gareth Pugh, Sergio Rossi, Hussein Chalayan, Mr. Pearl, Rodarte, Givenchy, Yohji Yamamoto and Thom Bro.
The festival encourages emerging and established artists to reconsider the way that fashion is presented, and to challenge the parameters of film. The event brings together designers, directions and artists from around the world. It emphasises these collaborations between multi-disciplined people, emcompassing art performance, new forms of choreography and soundtracking as the leading edge of a new informative language.
The combination of fashion and film gives fashion sustainability within a wider audiences, due to its longevity online.
The festival will take place from January 24th-27th, 2012 at CaixaForum. Read an interview with the festival's co-curator Alex Murray-Leslie here.
