Artevistas Gallery presents #OnOff, the recent sculptures of the young artist Antonio Samo.
The central concept of the exhibition revolves around the appearance, to be and not to be, the way we want to be seen by our loved ones, and how we see ourselves. By focusing on image (the result of social networks and our current culture), Samo carves in wood beings devoid of any emotional attitude.
The title # OnOff refers to the attitude of the spectator in front of the sculptures: by observing them, he activates his curiosity, he asks questions about gestures, postures and painted symbols on their clothes. Finally, he completes his analysis by enjoying the smooth finish of the skin or the rough texture of clothing.
These characters were inspired by people that the artist crosses daily : impersonal beings with faces, wearing identity-defining clothes and messages to express their social belonging to a particular group. Samo depicts Man, half naked, in underwear and t-shirt, bold and intriguing. He freezes the moment just before dressing up, or just after undressing .
The Artevistas Gallery presents for the first time an exhibition of sculptures: a landscape of elegantly hieratic forms, hanging on their white beam applied on the wall. Contemporary army filled with irony.
The exhibition is open everyday from 11am to 9pm.
