Alpha Blondy home
Hailing from Dimbokro in the Ivory Coast, Alpha Blondy, is known as the Bob Marley of Africa due to the uniquely African sound of his reggae, the spiritual and political content of his songs and, indeed, his collaboration with The Wailers and Marley's bassist Aston Barrett.
Alpha is known for his progessivity, introducing the violin and cello to reggae and singing in his native Dioula, as well as Baoule, French and English. His band, The Solar System is suitably diverse, coming from Cameroon, England, France, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, and Togo.
In this regard, Vision, his 15th album, is considered to be vintage Blondy. Recorded in Dioula and French, it is a politically conscious and yet upbeat work fusing roots, reggae and rock. Check out the track 'Vuvuzela' and sample some of Blondy's infamous humour.
